The Truth About The South African Movie Industry

IF YOU HAVE A PASSION YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
False! The truth is not so simple.
When it comes to doing a film on your own you might have more problems then you hoped for. Especially if you want to release that film on south african cinema if you are independent .

Unless your film has a very famous actor, or a powerful organisation behind it, it would properly end up online and on the pirate market. No matter how good your film is and no matter how many fans you have, end of the day, you film might be rejected by the cinema for any accuse they can come up with.

It's a sad truth! If your film is funded by The Film Commission, you stand a greater chance of your film reaching cinema or even film festivals. Nowadays people in power or in position do not look at products as they would overseas. They look at what has been selling and try to keep the momentum.

They always say these are the type of films that do well because its the only option audiences are given. And nobody wants to take a chance on something new. It's disappointing but truth has to be told.

If you really want your film to do well better to make connections internationally then local. Cause you bound to fail.
